First, the facts....

Internet accounts are to be prepaid, and you must always maintain a positive account balance in order to use the system. If your account balance falls below zero, your account is locked, and you will be unable to log into the system. Once an account is locked, you have 14 days to make a payment on your account in order to ensure the account is not permanently removed. Once your account is removed, there are no guarantees you will get the same user id if you wish to re-open an account with us. If your account is removed, you will be required to pay the setup fee again in order to open a new account with us. Keep in mind, while we offer monthly accounts, they do not necessarily conform to the calendar months. For billing purposes, a month is always 31 days, no matter how many days in the current calendar month. The billing month starts on the first day your account is opened, or in the case of existing customers reconfiguring their account, the effective date of reconfiguration.

You will receive email each week informing you of any charges to your account, your current balance. It is suggested that you keep at least a $10.00 float in your account. This ensures that if you do use more time than your monthly time limit, you are not locked out of the system.

How does this work?

When you sign up with Durham.Net, you pick the account type you wish to be configured for, and the number of months you wish to prepay. If for example, you choose our 20 Hour per month account, and wish to prepay for 6 months:

Setup Fee: 1 * $25.00 $25.00
6 Months Pre-Paid 6 * $15.00 $90.00
Float: ------ $25.00
----------------------------------------------------------------
Sub-Total: $125.00
Add 7% GST: $8.75
====================================
Total: $133.75

G.S.T. is always deducted before the payment is applied to your account. This will show up in your first email statement as follows:

01/01/97 Payment Received $133.75 $133.75 01/01/97 G.S.T. deducted $8.75 $125.00 01/01/97 Setup Fee Deducted $25.00 $100.00 01/01/97 Reconfiguration to 6 months of 20 Hours per month 01/01/97 deducting $90.00 $10.00

The amount on the right is your current account balance.

Each week, you will receive detailed logs of your Internet Usage. These will appear as follows:

Mon Jun 3 21:16:18 -> Jun 3 21:19:30 (00:03:11) 00:03:11
Mon Jun 3 21:19:58 -> Jun 3 22:42:33 (01:22:36) 01:25:47
Tue Jun 4 21:40:40 -> Jun 4 21:42:06 (00:01:26) 01:27:13
Tue Jun 4 21:42:34 -> Jun 4 22:05:44 (00:23:07) 01:50:20

Each entry consists of the login date and time, the logout date and time, the time used on that connection, and the total time used in the current month.

Once you reach your monthly time limit, there will be entries in your email billing statement which show the amount deducted from your float each day for overtime charges. You will also receive an email warning each time you log off the system while using overtime. This is to ensure that you are aware of the extra charges.

Why a float, and how does it work?

We ask you to keep a float in your account so that you are not locked out of your account when you have used your monthly allotment of time. Our Billing system is completely automated, and it makes its decisions based on your account balance. Each time you log off the system, it check how much time you have used, and adds it to your total time for the current period. If the total exceeds your monthly limit, then your account is charged for this overtime use. Overtime charges are calculated in 15 minute increments. This means if you have used between 1 and 15 minutes of overtime, your account will be charged 1/4 of the hourly overtime charge. If this charge puts your account into a negative balance, the system automatically locks your account.

If your account is configured for Pre-Authorized Direct Debit from your Cheqeuing Account, we may only deduct a fixed amount each month, which means Overtime Charges cannot be covered by a bank withdrawal. If you use overtime, which results in a negative balance, your account will automatically be locked.

Exceptions....

Automatic Credit Card Payments

If your account is configured such that you have authorized Durham.Net to deduct your Internet Charges from your credit card, then the system will automatically advance you enough money to keep from having a negative balance, and add this to your credit card charge for your next month.

Pre-Paid Months

Lets assume for example that you prepaid for 6 months of 20 hours per month, but in the first month, you go over your 20 hours. Charges for overtime are deducted from your account at the end of each call, and if your balance falls below zero, the system will be forced to cash in one of your prepaid months in order to cover the overtime. We strongly urge everyone to leave a small float in their account to prevent the system from locking your account. You will receive plenty of warning via email that you are using overtime.
