| In the middle of winter, 1925, the "Newfoundland Hotel" was nearing
completion, the hotel was opened July 1st 1926. The Ethel Dickenson Monument,
to the "Volunteer Nurse" who gave her life in the great epidemic of 1918
while tending patients at King George V Institute, St. John's, was moved
to the southern corner of the hotel, where it stands today.
