A Model of Oderin

Oderin
Oderin
The chap who did this lives alongside Route 90 on the west side of the road just north of St. Mary's. He is retired from the Canadian Coast Guard. He dammed up a brook that runs alongside his house and then shaped the banks like the shoreline of the harbour at Oderin. Then built the houses and other buildings and recreated the community as it was, before it became part of the relocation plan.

Oderin, a resettled fishing community, was located on Oderin Island in western Placentia Bay, about 30 km northeast of Marystown. Oderin Island is horseshoe-shaped with its mouth facing west. It has a natural harbour. The community was resettled in 1966 with the families relocating to Rushoon, Parker's Cove, Burin and St. John's.
