We have created a brand new page called Newfoundland Outport: Outport Chatter. We have provided this page as a "place" where Newfoundlanders (where ever they may be) can enjoy a good gab with fellow Newfoundlanders. When Cathy was growing up in St. Fintan's, it was a common thing to see next door neigbours chatting "over the fence". I had similar experiences in Corner Brook, and I'm sure that "chatting over the fence" is still quite common back home in Newfoundland.

Between playing Bingo and Poker, as soon as the dishes were off the table.Two weeks was not enough time and I did not want her to ante up with our return flight tickets. I wanted to go to the beach to gather up some stones and sand to take home,just so that if she got homesick,she could at least have a reminder, while dreaming of times, she and her siblings were growing up in St.John's.When we had to leave to fly back home, looking down at the island I realized that there was a part of my heart that stayed back,waiting for the day I will once again come back to the Rock. Comments: I am interested in Burts Cove as that is where my grandfather, "Andrew Guy Burt" was born in the late 20th century. His father was a fisherman. My grandfather migrated down through Boston where he stayed with a cousin and learned his ediquette. He then came to Joliet, Il. and moved his family with him. I believe his ancestors migrated from England with six fishing boats with another man by the last name of Guy. Both men later married sisters of one of the earliest settlers of Newfoundland. WE are great friends , i have a strong feeling for Newfoundland and her people and always hope and pray for the best. From 1985-1989 I called Newfoundland my home , actually the U.S.naval facility in Argentia on the Avalon penninsula, i was a cook on board the base although i was only suppose to do a 2 year hitch there i extended every chance i got and rounded out an extra 2 and a half years (almost 5 yrs in all) I HAD served 5 years before i reached NL. and traveled mainly throughout Europe but,.... when i am asked where i enjoyed the service the most i always reply 'NEWFOUNDLAND, IT'S AS RUGGED A COUNTRY AS IT IS BEAUTIFUL!' That speaks volumes how i fell in love with your land and her people ,I truely admired the strength and loyalty of the Newfoundland people despite economic plight Newfoundland's son's and daughter's i respect without a doubt through thick and thin they always pull through, I LOVE THE CULTURE, MUSIC, FOOD, HISTORY AND HUMOR-( in cod we trust) and her spirit , may the good lord keep and protect Newfoundland forever! p.s. who may i contact in NEWFOUNDLAND to attempt to contact some old friends i have lost contact with .
